San Francisco police made pedestrian safety a priority in 2005, ticketing nearly twice the number of drivers who violated walkers’ rights than the year before, according to department records. Overall, the Police Department’s Traffic Company wrote 9,745 more tickets for moving violations in 2005 than it did the year before including more than 4,100 citations for not yielding to pedestrians, up from 2,380 in 2004.
