SF official retires after drunken fight with son in Arizona

Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO - Former San Francisco police chief Alex Fagan Sr. retired as the city's emergency services director Tuesday as new details surfaced about his actions at an Arizona hotel where he and his son got into a drunken fight that resulted in the younger man's arrest. Mayor Gavin Newsom's office announced in a brief statement that Fagan, 53, would be leaving his $195,290 a year job "due to personal and family matters and in the best interest of the city." Still considered a member of the police department, he has been placed on administrative leave until his retirement becomes effective.
